Pillow Talk
Can we talk? When did pillows get so expensive?
Maybe it happened when they got so beautiful, we can’t be sure. But these lovely accessories are incredibly influential on both the look and feel of the room they serve, as well as the wallet of the buyer. And while we’re at it, the really special ones, the ones with the gorgeous colors and patterns that really make a difference, are not all that easy to come by “off the rack”. Sure there are increasingly large “pillow departments” at your local home store, but it seems like you’ll often need to decide between the look or the feel. There are lots of harsh fabrics out there. If you turn to the upper end catalog brands, the quality is there, but you can get into purchasing the pillow and the pillow covers separately at quite a cost.
Considering that pillows are meant to alleviate stress and pain – not cause it – we’ve rounded up some that hit the sweet spot between quality, looks, and price.
ElemenOPillows
Karen Larkin, proprietor of ElemenOPillows not only operates a successful Etsy store, but her pillow covers have been featured on have been featured on the Nate Berkus Show, in ApartmentTherapy.com and in hundreds of home decor blogs. They’ve been seen on HGTV and have also been in both Good Housekeeping and HGTV magazines. And she is currently having a great sale. Here are some examples of her work. Keep in mind these are pillow covers, but even after you purchase the insert, you’ll find the total price to compare extremely well to alternatives.
Nestables
Nestables is another great Etsy store. It offers unexpected, sophisticated fabrics, especially the neutrals, at modest prices.
Faux Fur, Real Warmth
If you’d like to add a little faux fur warmth and texture to your abode, World Market has some fantastic options.
Embraceable Art
An unexpected suede tassel pillow at an unexpected price from West Elm can really pull a room together
West Elm has one of the richest pillow cover collections around these days. Their designs team texture and color most effectively, creating embraceable works of art.
Inside Out
Pillows are one of the key accessories for completing your “outdoor room”. Grandin Road has a modest lumbar pillow that beautifully brings the feel of an indoor room to your porch or patio. Thank you Grandin Road for breaking from the bright corals, greens and blues often associated with “outdoor” pillows. These winners makes anything they touch look even better
Sham-azing!
The right shams can make you feel like a design genius every time you make your bed. Euro shams in particular add sophistication as well as coziness. Pottery Barn really finds that sweet spot between look, feel, and price, and we’re speaking from experience! The great thing about a well-coordinated sham is that it can reduce the tendency to load up on too many pillows, which can come as a relief to many men out there.
You’re in Good Company with great pillows!
