White is the New Red
We’re going well beyond white jeans, and it’s about time. Some women have realized that there are several special days and occasions in one’s life, and wearing white need no longer be limited to confirmations and weddings. White is replacing red as the color of choice for standing out and being recognized. In 2003 it looked like Diane Keaton’s wardrobe in “Somethings Gotta Give” was going to kick off a sea of popular white clothing choices. From refreshing Hamptonesque white crew necks and pants to sophisticated yet almost sporty white suits for elegant evenings. However, white clothing simply didn’t go mainstream…until…right now!
The Crisp White Dress
Wimbledon whites took on a new meaning as Carole Middleton showed up in a lovely Hallhuber embroidered eyelet dress, currently on sale. Carole demonstrates that a perfect fit, not to mention a confident gait, is key for giving this look a certain sophistication. A blush colored bag (not too big or small) and nude t-strap shoes also keep the look more formal. Notice that during the summer season whites are crisp, not creamy.
Shortly thereafter, Pippa Middleton made her debut as a fiancée in her version of the crisp white dress.
The Middleton women remind us that white dresses have more range that we may have thought. They are for women of all ages and a variety of occasions. Looking for a summer dress that will contrast with brightly colored flats or pumps? This could be it. Remember to keep shoes simple though, if your dress is fairly embellished.
A Look We Can All Agree On
Stars of both the RNC and DNC chose white for their speeches – and what a choice it was. Unmatched in simple elegance, white lends itself to dresses and suits, and requires no significant accessories. The color is the statement. Cool, calm, collected and confident. While red might scream “Hey, over here! Look at me!” white uses a strategy from Coco Chanel, “Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman”.
In a Roksanda dress that is currently on back order Melania Trump used only her sleeves for the added “oomph” expected from a fashion pro. The dress so nice that it was worn twice also looked superb on Representative Joyce Beatty.
Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton enhanced her elegant Ralph Lauren suit with the most demure short necklace, earrings, and charm bracelet.
Let’s not forget the crisp white elegance of Jill Biden. If anyone knows the designer, please let us know in our comments section.
